Free, no sign-up, no email needed. The columns follow the "Daily business travel records" table in the official SARS eLogbook 2026-27.
Want a reminder? Join the launch list below and we'll email you before 1 March 2027 so you remember your opening odometer reading, and tell you when SA Logbook is on Google Play. Completely optional.
What's in the template
- Primary information: your name, the tax year, the vehicle (make, model, registration), the vehicle's value including VAT, the opening odometer on 1 March, the closing odometer on the last day of February, total km, business km and business %.
- Daily business travel records: Date, Opening km*, Closing km*, Total business km, From, To, Reason, Actual fuel & oil costs (R), Actual repairs & maintenance costs (R). (*Not compulsory, as on the SARS eLogbook.)
- The Excel version also has the 2026/27 SARS cost table and adds up your totals.
How to fill it in
- On 1 March, write down your odometer reading (and take a photo).
- After every business trip, add a line: the date, the kilometres, where you started, where you went and why.
- Leave private trips out of the daily table; SARS doesn't need their details.
- Don't log trips between home and work as business. They're private.
- On the last day of February, write down the closing odometer reading. Total km = closing minus opening.
- Add up your business km. Business % = business km ÷ total km.
- Use one template per vehicle, and keep it for five years after you submit your return.
The rules behind each step are explained in our SARS logbook requirements guide.
The official SARS eLogbook
SARS publishes its own free eLogbook each year. The 2026-27 version is on the SARS Travel e-log book page (direct PDF link). Our template uses the same columns in an editable format.
Or let your phone do it
Paper logbooks get forgotten, lost, or filled in at the end of the year from memory. SA Logbook records trips by GPS as you drive, so you only swipe business or private, and it exports the same SARS columns as a PDF at the end of the tax year.
